KVP calculator

Type the amount you invest. See what Kisan Vikas Patra pays, how many months it takes to double and the month it would mature if bought now.

…

Rate for October to December 2026, from the Ministry of Finance office memorandum F. No. 1/4/2019-NS of 30 September 2026; checked 11 October 2026. All small savings rates

How to use it

  1. Type the amount: at least ₹1,000, in multiples of ₹100, with no upper limit.
  2. The months to double open on the period set with this quarter’s rate. Change them to see the yearly rate another period works out to.

You get the maturity amount, the time it takes, the month it would mature if bought this month, and the yearly rate the period means.

How KVP works

Kisan Vikas Patra doubles the amount invested over a fixed number of months. The Government sets the period along with the rate: at 7.5% a year compounded yearly, it is 115 months, which is 9 years and 7 months. The certificate pays nothing until then.

Yearly rate = 2^(12 ÷ months) − 1. For 115 months, 2^(12 ÷ 115) − 1 = 7.5%.

Worked example

₹1,00,000 in KVP bought in October 2026 pays ₹2,00,000 115 months later, in May 2036. Half of it, ₹1,00,000, is interest. A certificate keeps the period it was bought with, even if the rate changes later.

Rules

Tax

The gain is taxable. It can be declared each year as it accrues, or all in the year the certificate matures. KVP gives no tax deduction.
